Enjoyable to re-read, although tear-provoking in a few parts, and effectively as complete as it needs to be. (The authors have it marked as incomplete only because they thought they might possibly add to this someday, but the five stories here were all the ones they'd mapped out and planned to write, originally.) By the end of the fifth story (what would have been their 5th year at Hogwarts), Voldemort is defeated and Harry, Hermione, and the school-age friends to whom they'd provided refuge from abusive families are transferring to Beauxbatons.

Hermione detects signs of abuse in Harry in first year and contacts her parents to try and get help for him. The Grangers find that the Dursleys are only too glad to sign over custody of Harry to them, and so Harry Potter becomes a member of the Granger family, and then he and Hermione find allies in McGonagall and Snape in forming a support group for other Hogwarts students whose families are physically and/or emotionally abusive, but who have no legal recourse under the outdated laws of Magical Britain.

This is the one where Harry and Hermione become 'bonded' siblings in magic (meaning that Hermione shares the weight of Harry's Potter family magic, and his blood wards become anchored through her), Draco becomes Harry's best friend, and Hermione dates both Victor Krum and Fred Weasley in the triad relationship, with her parents' blessing.

With Dobby's help, despite all of Albus Dumbledore's efforts to keep him completely cut off from information or support, Harry begins writing letters to the wizarding newspapers during the summer before 5th year as "Oliver Twist, anonymous Hogwarts student", drawing attention to the inaccuracies and injustices and just plain insanities so rife in the wizarding press and government. Harry even draws the attention of Her Majesty's government.

74k+ words, written in 2009-10. At least partly inspired by an unfinished (and, to my mind, much less enjoyable) 2004 story about Harry writing for both muggle and wizarding newspapers under an alias in the summer before 6th year, Celestial Requiem by Raven Dragonclaw.

An unfinished but still noteworthy story from 2008 (see chapter 13 of this incomplete work on FFN), presenting a much more cerebral and coldly focused Harry, who'd rather chat with Voldemort/Quirrell than give Dumbledore the time of day.

Warning: LOTS of separate departures from canon, rather than simply one change that has far-reaching effects (the whole timeline is moved 10 years later, so that Harry's first year at Hogwarts starts in 2001 instead of 1991; Harry isn't burdened down with chores at the Dursleys, nor punished for doing well in school, and the Dursleys prefer to ignore him as much as possible; Harry gets thrift store clothes that at least fit him, after his magic shrinks that ugly sweater; Snape is a pureblood Death Eater loyalist and was never friends with Lily, and he was already pretending to spy for Dumbledore before the prophecy was made; etc.).

AU. August 1995, when Harry and Dudley are attacked by Dementors, Luna and Hermione are at the playground too. The girls are too young to legally do magic to help Harry, but they are reliable eyewitnesses, and this makes all the difference afterwards. This summer, Hermione has defied Dumbledore’s orders to not write to Harry.

This is an H/Hr story in which both Harry and Hermione befriend the strange blond Seer girl, Luna Lovegood.

Very enjoyable and fun to re-read! Seer-Luna as a friend (and Hermione's parents asking her some hard questions that show Hogwarts and Dumbledore in a very bad light) makes all the difference at the beginning of summer 1995, and the changes spread outward from there, with both dark Lords -- Riddle and Dumbledore -- vanquished long before OWLs.

      ---SPOILERS---

This story re-uses some themes and ideas from many of TomHRichardson's other HP fics, but with some lovely twists and makes the most of Luna's friendship and its loving effect upon the H/Hr pairing and their new-and-improved version of the Golden Trio. Also, I loved Founder-powerful Harry, Hermione, and Luna mowing down Tommy, the DEs, and hostile beasties, and then getting back to school in time for supper. :)

Harry Potter has died for the sixth time, and his personal reaper is NOT okay with this. It seems an overhaul is needed... from much earlier than Harry anticipated.

A somewhat different but very refreshing answer to the challenge, where Harry is encouraged to return as a 7-year-old and use the power of his cuteness and apparent helplessness to get the help he needs to change his own life and the fate of the British wizarding world. By the time he's ready to go to Hogwarts, he's accomplished (or better yet, made it possible for responsible ADULTS to accomplish) everything his Reaper had asked of him in terms of destroying the horcruxes and saving people who could be saved, plus changing the way the British magical world treated squibs and muggleborns and educated all their children in many healthy ways.

      Quite a satisfying read.

About 150k words in length, posted in 34 chapters, and quite a satisfying read for the most part, though it gets a bit inconsistent on some details in the last 10 chapters or so . . . possibly because there were some gaps of up to 10 months between updates at times, and the author may've forgot some of what had previously been stated when she was writing the later chapters (the story was started in 2016 and just finished on April 1 of 2021).

Albus' attempt to use Molly Weasley and a pack of lies to bully Harry into a predatory betrothal with Ginny leads to absolutely the last outcome he wants, as Harry becomes worried about Hermione's magical health and insists on going to St. Mungo's, where Hermione in turn insists that Harry be looked at, and it turns out that Harry is desperately in need of competent (i.e., not mentally manipulated by Dumbledore) medical care to keep from dying. Amelia Bones is made aware of many things that were wrong about the past two years at Hogwarts, leading to a massive investigation and upset in magical Britain. Meanwhile, the Grangers become Harry's legal guardians and take him and Hermione far away from Britain for their safety. (Magical education is better in Australia -- and most of the rest of the world, for that matter -- than at Hogwarts.)

Then, newly freed and cleared Sirius Black enlists his friend Remus Lupin to help him locate his missing godson, and there are more revelations about Dumbledore's manipulations and their long-term consequences for all.

In the station between Life and Death Harry makes a different choice. Now he is eleven again, nothing is going the same as before, and people are starting to ask questions, especially the Malfoys, the Hogwarts professors and, most worryingly, Mad-Eye Moody. UNFINISHED since 2011 at over 147k words and 31 chapters, but still very well worth reading and re-reading.

Harry returns to the summer of 1991 and finds unexpected help from Narcissa Malfoy in hiring a lawyer to overturn Dumbledore's illegal guardianship (and all the gold and property Albus has removed from Harry's vault over the years, even if SOME of the money went to fund scholarships to Hogwarts, for which Albus took credit) and free Sirius Black. Making a friend of cousin Draco before starting Hogwarts makes a difference, as does Harry's 6th-year knowledge of the Hogwarts curriculum, but then Harry has to cope with BOTH Quirrelmort AND diary Tom and the basilisk in his first year.

The story leaves off early in the summer after first year, with Harry hunting horcruxes and dealing with some anger and loneliness issues.

A rare HP crossover with the SERRAted Edge book series by Mercedes Lackey and other authors (elves racing stock cars and rescuing at-risk children!), this just-under-200k-word story from 2013-16 tells a fascinating tale (if you get past the many proof-reading errors in the first chapter/prologue) of a Harry who was rescued from the Dursleys when he was a much-abused 6-year-old by a fae named 'Nick' (a.k.a. Santa Claus, Father Christmas) and taken to the Fairgrove compound in North Carolina, where he was raised in health, safety, magic, and racing.

Then a very un-self-aware Albus Dumbledore (who's actually quite evil, but sees himself as the leader of the light who's just making necessary sacrifices in order to get the clone-like, submissive successor and keeper of his legend that he feels he needs and deserves, after having inexplicably failed twice already with Gellert and Tom) uses the TriWiz to pull Harry from his happy life just in time to face the first task. But Harry isn't alone in the world, and his family of elves, mages, kitsune, shape-shifting real dragons, and others are more than up to the task of helping not only Harry but also many other oppressed people in magical Britain rid themselves of the stagnation and cruelty Dumbledore has fostered for so long, with the blessing and aid of Her Majesty's government.

[Please note: you don't have to know the Mercedes Lackey novels in order to enjoy reading this reasonably good story. I only read the 3rd novel in the series (When the Bough Breaks), almost 30 years ago, and I hardly remembered any of it at all (just enough to be quite frustrated that it took the writer until chapter 19 out of 76 to mention that this is a crossover at all and the name of the series, and then he only mentioned it again at the start of chapter 28 and never again! But I digress...), but I still enjoyed reading this and had no trouble figuring out who the characters are and how they fit into Harry's new life.]

Harry Potter is a thief and a lawbreaker long before he gets his letter. Upon discovering he's a wizard, he sets out for the wizarding world - but he's doing things his way. Dumbledore has no idea what his decision to leave Harry with the Dursleys has wrought. Harry/Multi, darkish, some Dumbledore bashing, rating may go up later.

So very many proof-reading errors, but still a fun re-read! (I especially enjoy the bits when Harry enlists the aid of his young muggle 'criminal' friends in rescuing Ginny from an undeserved trip to Azkaban, burning Malfoy Manor to the ground, and blowing up the residences of other unpunished Death Eaters, while accumulating female friends and allies . . . which is handy, considering he's charged with Family Restoration as the last heir of the Potters and is in need of at least 5 wives.)

      SPOILERS:

This is the one where Harry at six years old starts spending long terms in juvenile detention, as a better alternative to the Dursleys, and makes good friends/siblings-by-choice among other juvenile offenders with troubled family life. When Hagrid reveals the wizarding world to him, Harry resolves to make the most of whatever opportunities present themselves. He steals the Philosopher's Stone from Hagrid's pocket and entrusts it to his closest 'big sister' Carrie to help with her financial needs while he's away, befriends Daphne on the train (rather than Ron), rescues Tracey from a defective broom in flying class, and is joined by Dean and Blaise as well as his female Slytherin friends when he confronts the Troll in order to save housemate Hermione.

      END SPOILERS.

Other stories by this very young writer I've enjoyed reading and re-reading (in spite of the MANY proof-reading problems and occasional continuity errors) include

      1) Wand, Knife, and Silence -- where baby Harry is rescued from the Dursleys' doorstep by Blaise's mom and raised and educated in Italy with much love and assassination skills -- and

      2) The Witch Queen of Essos -- a Ginny-centric crossover with "Game of Thrones", where Ginny survives the murder of her husband and children, then is transported to a new world, where she saves the life of Lyanna Stark and helps all the surviving Targaryans build a new life, eventually discovering that Sirius Black also came to this world through the Veil.

Delightful one-shot, over 9k words in length, in which Harry discovers that if he's hurt enough and angry enough (as he is after every encounter with Snape's legilimency attack) he can actually affect Voldemort's mind, making strong suggestions without Voldemort having any clue as to why he's suddenly inclined to AK so many of his followers.

Happily, there's a reward for the capture or killing of all those folks, much less Voldemort himself, and since Harry didn't actually use any forbidden magic himself, but did cause those deaths . . .

Not for fans of Hermione or Ron.

Just over 17k words from 2015, but that's all it takes for a truly fed-up Harry to do whatever it takes to not just defeat but ANNIHILATE Voldy and his death munchers. Meanwhile, the Order of the Phoenix is (as always) useless, Dumbledore is worse than useless, and Harry really only cares about saving his own life first and his godfather's second.

I adore this fierce, ruthless, take-no-crap-off-anybody, put-Albus-bloody-Dumbledore-firmly-in-his-place (preferably a place completely outside of the halls of power and influence for being massively incompetent and screwing Harry over so often) Harry!

      ***SPOILERS****

A loyal basilisk army hatched and raised with Kreacher's reluctant help and holding the Ministry hostage to make sure Harry gets paid for the win! :)

OTHER STORIES BY THIS AUTHOR I'VE ENJOYED INCLUDE...

Harry Potter and the Unforgivable Tournament (under 11k words, 2014, ONE-SHOT): 'Harry asks an obvious question during his first class with Professor Moody...and everything changes.' [Harry has plenty of hatred against Voldemort and Pettigrew, more than enough to fuel some very powerful AKs, and to hell with everyone else who thinks they can abuse him further, just because for once he's not going to risk his life fighting the monsters that Hogwarts throws at him.]

Always Read the Fine Print (over 8k words, 2015, ONE-SHOT): 'After being entered into the Tri-Wizard Tournament against his will, Harry does some independent research on what precisely "magically binding" means...and comes up with a very different approach to the competition. As they say, the pen is mightier than the sword...but is the quill mightier than the wand?' [If the Goblet of Fire can take all his magic for its own due to a contract Harry didn't actually, knowingly sign, then Harry figures out how HE can gain a whole lot of power to breeze through the Tournament and do pretty much anything he wants with his future outside of Britain afterwards, using a similar scam. Compare with Aelket's 2011 one-shot When Is It a Contract?, in which Luna's peculiar family seer ability gives Harry the contract information and contacts he needs to avoid being roped into the TriWiz at all, and leads to a better future for himself, Hermione, Luna, and Susan Bones, and the end of at least one dark lord's interference in his life See also Kalen Darkmoon's 2007 short fic, Magical Contracts, in which Harry uses some contract parchment and a simple confundus charm to see if he can forge the signature of Tom Riddle and many others to a contract that takes their magic if they've ever harmed an innocent or ever do so in the future, and unexpectedly receives the details of crimes he'd never known were committed against him and his family.]

Harry Potter and the Lightning Scar (109k words, 2014, 36 chapters): 'After the disastrous end of Harry's third year, Sirius and Remus scheme to lift Harry's spirits by sending him to the United States to learn to be an animagus. In the process, he ends up learning the truth about his infamous scar and how to fight his war.' [Wonderful work! Dark and grisly and somewhat traumatizing at times (because of the bad guys' actions, not Harry's, I mean), but oh so satisfying in the end. I love it when a Harry plan comes together. ]

This author's shortest multi-chapter story at just over 85k words and 9 chapters, but it covers the territory pretty well, getting rid of evil Dumbledore in chapter 2, then setting right many of the things Dumbledore had done wrong (including sending the last remnant of Tom Riddle/Voldemort through the veil with no fuss before Harry even starts his first year at Hogwarts in chapter 7), and going through Harry's school years at a vastly improved Hogwarts, marriage, career, and eventual death after a lifetime of healing, helping, and teaching, to be reunited at last with his "Grandpa Iggy" (Ignotus Peverell, the 'Old Friend' in the title) and "Uncle Thanatos" (Death). Very satisfying and comparatively quick read.

OTHER, MUCH LONGER WORKS BY SINYK:

Angry Harry and the Seven, COMPLETE, 490k words, 87 chapters, Harry/Daphne: 'Just how will Dumbledore cope with a Harry who is smart, knowledgeable, sticks up for himself and, worst still, is betrothed? A Harry who has a penchant for losing his temper?'

[Harry has an eidetic memory, lots of power, lots of scars and health problems, and major anger issues due to his perfect recall of what various people had done to him even in infancy, exacerbated by having lived with a piece of Voldemort in his head until the night of September 1, 1991. It's a satisfying read, for the most part, as Dumbledore keeps getting slapped down, each time he tries to regain control of his 'weapon' or refuses to acknowledge the depths of his own wrong-doing. This is the one where Harry and Daphne run an etiquette club at Hogwarts, Hermione's discovered to be the Heir of Dagworth-Granger, Harry AND Neville kill the basilisk together, Harry manages to get Crouch Sr to emancipate him AND void the whole Goblet of Fire contract so that he never has to face a dragon (thanks in part to good advice from lawyer Dewey Scroohem!), finishes off Riddle/Voldemort and all his little horcruxes and becomes Lord Gryffindor AND Lord Slytherin by the end of chapter 74, and lives in the Hogwarts owners' suites with his friends for his last 3 years at school.

Fair Warning: This story has even more editing problems than other, later works by Sinyk, perhaps as a result of its longer length and various revisions that must've taken place over the course of its writing, with major inconsistencies especially in the early chapters (like what Amelia Bones knew and when, that's somehow forgotten later on), or oversights like in one of the late chapters where Draco attacks Harry when he's boarding his private owner's car on the Hogwarts Express, and Harry takes Draco's wand and says he'll handle the matter at that night's sorting feast, but there's no follow-up at all, and Draco is somehow still a student and in possession of his wand when he later attempts something even worse. Still, it's worth reading.]

Harry Potter and the Daft Morons, UNFINISHED (but still worth reading, as the 2 dark lords in Harry's life are dead and gone by chapter 64, and the rest is trying to improve society in the aftermath), 745k words, 84 chapters: 'At the first task of the Tri-Wizard Tournament Harry sees his chance to strike down his enemies - and takes it. Here is a Harry who knows how to think and reason. Really Bash!AD, EWE, Clueful!HP. Eventual HP/HG/DG/FD, NL/HA/SB, and others. Unapologetically!AU.'

[This is the one where Harry has been PRETENDING to be clueless, to string Albus and others along until he has enough evidence to gain the upper hand, but he finally drops all pretense during the first task and starts demonstrating that most magicals are 'daft morons' who can't see what's right in front of them or reason their way out of a wet paper bag. Using a pensieve to display his memories of all the stupid, abusive, life-threatening experiences he's suffered so far at Hogwarts to the entire crowd while they're forced to stay silent lest they 'hinder' him in considering how to go about getting the dragon's egg, Harry lays out a damning case against Dumbledore and many others. This is also the one with Harry suffering from a mild form of Asperger's Syndrome and therefore immune to most mind-control magic, Lords' apartments in Hogwarts, very active Unspeakables, a Potter/Longbottom Alliance (and especially a selfish Augusta Longbottom) that Harry has to smack into shape, a long-lost Malfoy heiress who's been healed and raised by muggles in Australia, and a 'tapestry circle' formed by Pureblood ladies who are sick of losing babies because of male-ordered inbreeding.]

      !!!SPOILERS!!!!

Learning that he's a wizard just shifts his plans for revenge slightly, and he enters Hogwarts well-prepared to see through the manipulations and failings of Dumbledore and the rest. By Christmas break, Sirius has been tried and freed thanks to Harry's insights and manipulations, while Umbridge and Lockhart have been permanently neutralized by Quirrellmort. And before Valentine's Day, Harry has added Albus Dumbledore to his list of 'adults too dangerous to live' (along with the possessed Quirrell and venomous Snape) and used a unique combination of potions to make it look like all three of them fell victim to the basilisk's petrification . . . except with no possible way to revive them without exploding them.

Happy ending all around for Harry and his very-much-not-an-'adult' godfather, with enemies disposed of and horcruxes happily burned up whenever they happen upon them.

Other Short-ish HP Stories by DisobedienceWriter I've Enjoyed Re-Reading:

Harry Potter and the Irish Choice, under 63k words, 2007: 'With all the crappy stuff Harry goes through at Hogwarts, the smart money would be on him transferring to a different, better school early in his career. Here’s one way it might have happened. No planned pairings.' [A young Harry newly arrived at Hogwarts discovers there's a whole lot wrong with that situation, and that some of the mountain of mail that Dumbledore has kept from him over the past decade includes invitations to other, possibly better and safer, schools of magic, including a very promising one in Ireland.]

A Bad Week at the Wizengamot, 22k words, 2007: 'What would have happened if Harry had been convicted by the Wizengamot after defending himself from dementors before his fifth year at Hogwarts? Humorous! Follow-up stories on Sirius Black plus Cornelius Fudge's attempt at becoming a dark lord.' [1st chapter is immensely satisfying, 2nd chapter on Sirius in charge of the government is hilarious, and 3rd chapter is funny but gross. Fair warning! :) ]

The Birth of Evil, 26k words, 2008: 'Tom Riddle was able to use magic long before he received a wand. In this AU, Harry has the same grasp on his magic...and a hatred for Muggles... Watch the birth of evil. Smart!Dark!Evil!Harry, All 7 Years.' [Evil!Harry is the most effective and beloved Minister of Magic ever -- who'd have thought?]

The Potter Family Grimoire, under 20k words, 2009: 'Harry Potter has an unprecedented amount of freedom the summer before his Third Year. He stumbles into an odd shop in Diagon Alley that will change his life forever.' [Harry finds and buys an ancient family grimoire lost since his grandparents' time, and begins finding new and satisfying ways to use old wards and spells invented by a thousand years of Potters. Dark-ish, but Harry triumphs without becoming an abuser himself, I would argue.]

Harry Potter and the Muggle Mess, 14k words, 2009: 'Albus Dumbledore attempts to drop Harry Potter off with the Dursley family when things go terribly wrong. The whole universe shifts because of one man's action.' [Vernon shoots Dumbledore dead on his doorstep, and all Dumbles' plans fall apart and many evils are revealed. The Unspeakables lend a hand -- or more -- and Harry grows up healthy and happy with Sirius and a family, while magical Britain cleans house with a vengeance.]

68 chapters, 180k words, with typos and other proof-reading issues, but not enough to keep me from reading and re-reading this story with great pleasure.

      !!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!

This is the one where baby Harry's a mess with a full diaper when Sirius finds him on that Halloween night in 1981, and stopping to clean Harry up gives Sirius time to remember James' nightmare of a few days earlier and how he'd made Sirius promise to take Harry and run far away from Dumbledore if anything happened to him and Lily. Living in Indonesia, Sirius has found that exposure to magic causes Harry to sicken as it feeds the curse in his scar, so they adopt a mostly muggle lifestyle. On vacation at a resort, Sirius meets and falls in love with the squib step-daughter of the president of the magical U.S.A., who's run away from her pureblood bigot security team and loving-but-domineering family.

There's lots of adventure, good family/relationship stuff, a great sense of place and other cultures, and a satisfying sort-of-conclusion after the minions of Fudge and Dumbledore make the BIG MISTAKE of attacking and kidnapping the (now) adopted grandson of the magical president on U.S. soil. This story ends with Sirius vindicated in Britain as well as internationally, the Malfoys sworn to support Sirius' cause, Dumbledore politically on the ropes and supposedly reduced to his headmaster role, and Harry scheduled to start Hogwarts (after saving the day again while on a muggle school trip to India).

The unfinished sequel Harry's Hero has been stalled at 8 chapters and 39k words since 2012, but is still fun to read as Harry and his tutors and support system begin the long process of turning Hogwarts into an actual school once more, while pranking and undermining the so-called headmaster's efforts to control, abuse, and endanger others for his own obsessive and selfish 'greater good'.

ADDITIONAL STORY BY THIS AUTHOR THAT'S WORTH RE-READING:

A Dance All My Own (106k words, 5 chapters, 2017): 'AU 4th year, Harry decides it's time to man up and dance to his own tune instead of the Headmaster's. Story contains some language, Dumbledore bashing, and a tiny bit of Ron bashing,' This is the one where being forced into the TriWiz makes Harry realize that Dumbledore is going to get him killed, unless he finds a way to get out of Hogwarts and away from Dumbledore's influence for good. Insisting on the use of a time-turner to help make up for the difference in magical education between himself and the older competitors, Harry bonds with Dobby, hires Remus as his steward and sets up headquarters in a magical tent in the Chamber of Secrets, while studying like mad to a) survive the TriWiz challenges, b) pass the more difficult and numerous ICW O.W.L. exams in June, and c) get accepted to another magical school, so that d) he can be emancipated in both the magical and muggle worlds and live long enough to have grandchildren of his own. Along the way, Harry gets professional healing at last, nutritional help, wardrobe help, and a belated education in all the social and magical knowledge related to the Potter family that a halfway competent magical guardian would have provided him long before he reached Hogwarts age.

    Summary

(alt title: Disproportionate response). Give the death-eaters a second chance? No way, not even a *first* chance! This is a "redo" fic with a twist. The pairing will eventually be Harmony but a good part of the story happens when they are too young so hard-core Harmonians need to be patient. Rated M for possible violence in later chapters.

      53 chapters, 187k words, from 2016-17.

This story isn't labeled as a response to Reptilia28's "Don't Fear the Reaper" challenge, but it meets all the criteria, including Harry having died six times before. Only problem is, Harry is determined to see that this time around his younger self at least gets to live a normal life, so he insists on going back as far as he's allowed (to 1986) with all his knowledge and powers, but in DOBBY's mature house elf body instead of his own child one. Thus, "Hobby" is born -- a house elf with way more knowledge and power than any other, who's determined to make sure that little Harry enjoys a safe and happy childhood under the nominal supervision of Sirius and Remus, along with the little girl next door, Hermione Granger . . .

. . . Even if he has to terrorize and/or eliminate every single Death Eater, dementor, and blood purist sympathizer in order to do it.

      !!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!

This is the one where it turns out Remus Lupin had his own, very successful muggle detective agency and was trying to track down (with a view to having muggle agents rescue) little Harry in his spare time, but that Dumbledore had somehow obliviated and robbed him of all that (including Lupin's discovery that muggle sleeping meds allowed him to peacefully sleep through the monthly transformation and be daisy fresh the next day), in time for him to be penniless and downtrodden and still feeling indebted to Dumbledore when he met Harry in his 3rd year.

I adored the concluding idea of freed and independent elves becoming the de facto FBI/MI5 of wizarding Britain, keeping eternal vigilance against tyrants and other destructive more-undemocratic-than-usual forces from within that society.

SEE ALSO THE MANY OTHER WORKS BY SENAWARIO, INCLUDING (BUT BY NO MEANS LIMITED TO) . . .

"One Responsible Adult..." series (Separate short stories where one responsible adult in the Potter 'verse could at some moment have changed everything and saved Harry -- as well as others -- a whole lot of needless suffering. These can be read in any order.):

      1) Questioning Quirinius: 'One responsible adult does not like Dumbledore's glib explanation for how a troll got in. She lets it go, but reacts when the next incident happens.' (1st year, Minerva)

      2) Conning Cornelius: 'One responsible adult does not like what is happening after Harry's 4th year. Though still on the run from the law, he figures out a way to help Harry, and more.' (5th year, Sirius)

      3) Liquidating Lucius: 'One responsible - and ruthless - adult does not like mysteries in his own field of expertise, specifically the one left unsolved at the end of a near-fatal Quidditch match. And when he eventually finds the answer, it makes him even more angry, and he brings in an even more ruthless - and greedy - group in on the game.' (2nd year, Flitwick)

      4) Definitely Not a Wallflower: 'One responsible adult finds his sister's possession of a diary that writes back, to be odd. With the help of his mentor (an elderly American wizard called Henry Walton, who was only 17 years younger than Dumbledore), he unravels enough of the mystery to get his employers interested. (Rated M for... well you'll see).' (2nd year, Bill W.)

      5) Saving Sirius: 'One responsible adult remembers in time that he has not taken his potion... (Rated M for language and viciousness.)' (3rd year, Remus)

      6) Annihilating Albus [technically unfinished, but done enough for me]: 'One responsible adult realises the inevitable (much earlier than he would have under a different author!) and decides to do something about it.' (1st year, Sirius again)

An 'oldie' (written in 2009) in the "Harry gets yet another raw deal from the WizWorld and is sent to Azkaban on false charges", but a good one for re-reading when you want to get good and mad AND see Harry deliver some cold, hard justice to all those who've betrayed and abused him. [It can be cathartic (I tell myself)!]

Also on FFN (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4816968/1/Do-Not-Meddle-In-The-Affairs-Of-Wizards), but wherever you read it, be sure to read the author's note at start of chapter 16 (I missed that completely my first time or two through this fic, and ended up still wondering about something the author had already confirmed in the note).

    Summary

Thrown back in time from 2019 to 1991, a grown and disgruntled Harry Potter finally has the chance to change his life for the better, fixing things before everything went wrong and becoming the father figure for his younger self that he never had.

Changing time is difficult though, and the more changes he makes, the less predictable the world turns out to be. Though now maybe he actually has a chance at happiness, both for him and his younger self, and just maybe a chance at romance as well.

    Summary

My answer to Reptilia28’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper” Challenge. Six times has Harry Potter died young instead of fulfilling his destiny of killing Tom Riddle and of marrying his soulmate Hermione. The seventh time that Harry’s soul is sent into his younger body, Harry keeps his older memories and he has a plan. But this time, if he fails, both his body and soul shall die.

This is an H/Hr story that bashes Dumbledore and our most unfavourite Weasleys.
